I have always had an interest in foreign languages and cultures, ever since I started taking French in the second grade. This stepping stone led to Gettysburg College where I majored in French and Political Science, and it fostered a passion for travel that continues to the present day.
Family has always been a priority in my life, and this stepping stone led to being a Stay-At-Home Mom to three wonderful children. My love for family and preservation of memories led me to become a Creative Memories consultant in 1997, and that became the stepping stone to an unsolicited teacher career in 2001.
I have always had a passion for life-long learning, and it was in part due to this passion that I began my first blog in 2008, Mastering English, which I began when I entered a Master’s program with the Bread Loaf School of English. The following summer another stepping stone led me to take a course, Revise Your Life … which awakened my desire to write. This not only led to creating another blog, My Cozy Book Nook, but also to pursue other avenues for writing.
I experienced another stepping stone in 2011: I had turned fifty, my mom passed away, I became a grandmother, and I realized that I was now the matriarch of the family. Major stepping stones in quick succession. This was a confusing time, which led me to begin yet another blog, Emerging from the Cocoon. I felt as though I was in the midst of transformation, but it wasn’t clear what I was supposed to become.
But I believe that God is faithful, and I know that He has a purpose for each of us. And it became clear in 2013 that I was ready to take that next step – or rather leap of faith – to the next stone. I will retire in May, 2014 to pursue a full-time writing career.
I have always felt that all of us have a story worth sharing, but it was not until I became a Creative Memories consultant that I knew this feeling was a fact. I fully embraced the company’s mission to Preserve the Past, Enrich the Present, and Inspire Hope for the Future – and this has led me to focus my efforts on helping others write their stories for future generations. You can find out more about my new company at Stepping Stone Publications.
In the meantime, this blog will serve to document my life after retirement, my life after fifty, and my personal writing endeavors, which not include memoir but also historical fiction and travel writing.
